Need suggestions for PayPal shipping options.
Im trying to work out the options for shipping for the LRG Complete PayPal template and need some suggestions.
What type of shipping options do you use most?
1) Per item shipping fee - example: item shipping fee X quantity
2) Weight Based - shipping based on item weight
3) Flat rate / total cart shipping - One flat fee for the entire order
Would love to hear your shipping options and ideas so i can make this template work well for everyone.
Thanks!

Thanks for the comments guys! so do you use flat rate per item (no matter the quantity) or a flat rate for the entire purchase (no matter mow much stuff)?
Since I most frequently ship prints, I would prefer a flat rate (first choice), or weight-based.
One other suggestion I have for the Paypal gallery is fixing the “return to index” link so it acts like a browser “back” button, returning the user to the most recent thumbnail page instead of the very first thumbnail page. And/or add numbers at the bottom so users can skip ahead to page 10, for example, instead of proceeding one page at a time. Does that make sense?
I would prefer to have all of these options
But I think I would replace the weight based
to a size based shipping fee.
Here’s my method:
My cart gets a base shipping charge, (option #3). However, there are certain items that increase the overall shipping amount (option #1). So what I really need is a combo of both.
I suppose if I could set the weight of all items to 0, except the ones that need to add to the total cost, that would be perfect. So long as I can set a minimum shipping amount.
Thanks so much for asking!!!
I’m using the existing version of your template for a website I’m involved in it’s been great - but I am keen to try the ‘new improved’ version.
As far as shipping options - I would say ‘all of the above’ please.
The scenario I have at the moment is that the seller has negotiated fixed price shipping for any weight up to 30kg, so a flat-rate would work well most of the time. However, some items are over 30kg and these would need a per item shipping charge applied.
Seeing your option for weight-based shipping made me think that I could maybe use that as well in some way. Problem there is, how would the system know the total weight of the order if it contains more than one item or if multiple items have exceeded the top weight limit for flat rate shipping?
I’m not expecting solutions to these issues from your system really - unless you can see a way of doing it? I may have to move to Zencart or suchlike to get the functionality I need.
This would be a pity, as I like the way I can do everything in Lightroom with your system, from processing the product images to creating the e-commerce website for the client.
If any of the above isn’t clear, drop me an e-mail and I’ll try and be more coherent - it is nearly midnight here!
Mate,
Great job you are doing on your galleries. We are all greatful for your work.
I would like a per item shipping fee as diffent size canvas’s cost different prices to send.
I use flat rate or even free.
I would really really like to have the ability for users to select different sizes of images and that those parameters are adjustable by the LR user. That would make it very complete!
It would be nice to have all options. But for what we do a flate rate is best. Which i have set up thru Paypal. The only issue I still have is the local pickup, if they check that box it still charges them for shipping. And this could be something I have set wrong within Paypal.
Here is a sample: http://www.unruephoto.com/online/brown
One other thing that would be great if there is a way to have page numbers on the bottom. I have alot of clients asking “How do we go to page number etc?” I also agree with Molly’s comment about the (Back to Thumbnails) fix.
So it seems like flat rate, size based, and weight based are the winners.
i think the method i use now will work for both weight and size based. basically you specify a shipping cost for each individual option, say 4×6 = $1, 8×10 = $2, and 11×17 = $3.
That shipping number can be whatever you want and based on whatever variable, size or weight, you decide.
A Size based example would be:
4×6 = $1
5×7 = $2
8×10 = $3
This is very straight forward
A Weight based example would be:
4×6 = $0.30
5×7 = $0.60
8×10 = $0.80
For weight just figure the cost of shipping 1 of that item and then use that number as the shipping cost. Now you basically have a weight based shipping system
Does that make sense? what do you think? or should it operate differently?
Looks very good to me…outstanding work. When its up and running I want to make a donation - this is going to be very very popular
Question: how will the add item to shopping cart work? Will there be a drop down or cell to specify number of say prints? So if I am a buyer and I want
2 8×10 @ $2 each - can I specify the ‘2′ or do I have to add it each time to the shopping cart?
An option for different rates for different destinations would be great.
For example I would like to have one rate for my UK customers, another for my continental european ones, another for North Americans, and another for rest of world.
Make it flexible by allowing us to create a drop down with different destinations
Flat rate - keep it simple -
the fewer dings a customer has the better the experience…
or 2 flat rates based on dollar size of order (maybe over $100 order would be higher assuming they are larger sized prints; requiring box/tube also…
Anxious to use…

One of the posters already wrote about a flat fee but accounting for various global locations…I concur.
Shipping for…
Local (wherever the gallery owner is located)
Europe (meaning Europe not the UK for UK users)
etc., etc.
Flat rate!
But I sugest not send the customer to Paypal until the order is finished. Now the customer arrive to Paypal page in every image that they chooe, unless I made a mistake.
Thanks!

I factor shipping into the cost of the print, then offer “Free Shipping” Makes everything a whole lot easier!
What might be good is a pull down to select a “sales team list” ie. one might have a item/flyer/poster that was seen at “sallys cafe” the buyer now can select Sally which would be annotated in paypal. Now you can track and pay your “sales team” I know this might be outside the scope.

I’d go along with requests for varied shipping based on varied destinations. This for me is the number one requirement with my customers.
Thanks for all the great galleries!
Just a comment. If people use this template to sell products other than photography the more flexible the approach to integration with paypal, the better.
Keep it simple - Fla rate. Probaly, may be one rate for he local shipments, and another - international.
I always use flat rate. it would be nice to have more than one flat rate option (ex. priority, express, ups, etc) but for my own use flat rate is the best option.
Hi,
Personally, I have an option to purchase various sizes of prints on my website. Ideally it would be great to have different shipping costs associated with different sizes, i.e. A2 €20, A1 €15 and so on.
The admin post of 09/04 in this regard seems spot on to me.
Thanks for all your efforts, they are greatly appreciated.
Is it possible to link a lightroom template to both paypal and a photo lab? I sell wedding photos and sometimes there are 100’s of photos that I have to go back into lightroom and search for to process the order.
It would be so much easier if the process was hands free

Flat rate is what I use.
